The mission of the Can Am Rugby Tournament Board is for the Can Am Rugby Tournament to survive and thrive in today’s economic instability. With rising costs this is not a simple task, but the board works throughout the year to make the tournament possible each year. Unfortunately as tournament costs increase each year, our revenues do not increase. So financial decisions must be made in the best interest of sustainability for the tournament.
We value all of the players and teams who have been coming to the Can Am Rugby Tournament for years, as well as the new players and teams that join us each year. Without your support, the tournament would not be in its 38th year. So thank you.
The Tournament Board has had to make some necessary changes to the tournament structure recently. These changes would not be made unless they were necessary to the future success of the tournament. The most noticable changes to the tournament have been the tournament dates and the location of the Sunday finals.
A tournament of this magnitude requires many fields, and in order to have access to the required number of fields we work closely with the Saranac Lake Central School District and Lake Placid Recreation Department. Summer is busy in Lake Placid and Saranac Lake. So to alleviate confusion the Rugby Tournament will take place the 30th weekend of each year. This arrangement gaurantees us access to all necessary fields, and eliminates any problems.

Historically, the Sunday finals have been played at North Country Community College. It was an honor for teams to play in the “Bowl.” We thank North Country Community College for their support of the tournament and allowing us to utilize their school field in years past.th
Last year the tournament made the decision to move the Sunday finals to Bloomingdale. Bloomingdale approached the Rugby Tournament requesting to host the Sunday Finals. Moving to Bloomingdale for Sunday finals was not an easy decision, as we were aware the impact this decision might have, but it continues to be the most logical financial decision for the tournament. Bloomingdale provides us an excellent venue for the Sunday Finals, and we are looking forward to returning to Bloomingdale for this years tournament.
