5th Consecutive Wheelchair Rugby Tournament held during Can-Ams

Lake Placid, NY – July 26, 2017

Wheelchair rugby, originally called murderball and known as quad rugby in the United States, is a team sport for athletes with a disability. It is practiced in over 25 countries around the world and is a summer Paralympic sport.

The Can-Am Rugby Tournament added a wheelchair division in 201. The division is made up of Canadian and American players from Montreal, New England, Ottawa, and Western New York.

Can-Am Rugby Tournament and Rutgers Medical School partner for continuing study on concussions.

When the 44th annual Can-Am Rugby Tournament kicks off Friday, it will also mark the fifth consecutive year that event organizers have partnered with the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.

The joint mission is to raise the level of knowledge on the complications arising from concussions.

Rugby Channel to LIVE Stream Championships

Saranac Lake Placid, NY – July 20, 2017

Organizers of the 44th Can-Am Rugby Tournament have announced that the Rugby Channel will televise championship matches on Sunday, July 30, from North Country Community College (NCCC) in Saranac Lake, NY.

This marks the tournament’s debut on a live broadcast platform over the internet. Play-by-play, real-time statistics and Twitter feed aggregation will be included in the live streams.

2017 Hall of Fame Inductees

“Beef” Bevilacqua, Leo Demong, Jay Annis to be Saranac Lake Mountaineer Rugby Club Hall’s newest members. 

Three long-time members of the Saranac Lake Mountaineers Rugby Football Club will receive Black Jacket awards, symbolic of induction into the club’s Hall of Fame.
