Can Am Community Letter

The Board of Directors of Can Am Rugby presents the following status of the Can Am Rugby Tournament and organization to the communities of Saranac Lake and North Elba/Lake Placid.

The primary mission of the Board is to ensure the continued success of the annual Can Am Rugby Tournament. The Can Am Rugby Tournament is the largest 15-player tournament in the U.S. and serves as one of the largest annual influxes of people into the Lake Placid and Saranac Lake communities. Traditionally, teams of men and women come from the northeast U.S., Canada, and, occasionally, England and Ireland. 2013 saw participants come from the Midwest and West Coast and our youth (U-19) division continues to grow.

1st Annual CanAm Quad Rugby Cup Match

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the CanAm Rugby Tournament in Saranac Lake/Lake Placid, the largest rugby tournament in the western hemisphere. Beginning in 1973, the tourney has expanded to include over 100 teams annually, added brackets for women, college, social sides, and premier clubs, and provided age brackets for the most populated levels (including an over 60’s group!). However, as part of the 40th anniversary weekend, the CanAm Organizing Committee is proud to announce the debut of its Quad Rugby bracket.

USA Women’s Rugby U-20 National Team to assemble in Lake Placid during CanAms

The USA Women’s U-20 National Team is holding a week long training camp in Lake Placid this week, and will be playing two exhibition games as part of the CanAm Rugby Tournament. They will kick off the CanAm Tournament on Thursday July 26 with a game at 6pm at the Ken Wilson Field at Petrova School in Saranac Lake, and will follow it with a second game at the conclusion of the championship games in Bloomingdale on Sunday.

Womens Collegiate All-American Touring Side Assembles for Can-Am Tournament

The Women’s Collegiate All-American Touring Side team has assembled in Lake Placid, NY to prepare for their two matches against the CIS All-Canadian Team in the Can-Am Tournament. The touring side has been training together since July 25 and will remain in New York until August 1.
